An interview with Emmy Award-winning San Francisco-based motion graphics designer and illustrator Donavon Brutus.
Emmy-award-nominated Haitian-American artist Donavon Brutus is a motion design and illustration artist based in San Francisco, California. His wide-ranging professional experience includes working as an animator, illustrator and designer. He's used his award-winning motion graphics skills both through in-house studio settings and freelancing in various sectors such as education and science outreach.
Donavon is currently the Lead Motion Designer/Illustrator of brand and premium content for ABC-owned television station KGO-TV.
As part of his five Emmy nominations, Donavan is the winner of a NorCal Emmy Award for a KGO-ABC7 project called The Earthquake Effect. His ongoing creative journey has also taken him around the world as an artist-in-residence in such far-off places as Australia and even Antarctica. He's actually been to all seven continents.
In 2022, Donavon will continue his independent creative work with Artnoise open program by travelling to Africa. He will travel to Lome, Togo from October to November 2022. The project will incorporate illustration, 2d/3d animation, video editing, and storytelling. It will incorporate African culture into the artwork.
Donavon is one of a select few people who will be part of exploring Africa’s Historic and contemporary Arts and cultural Destinations with the Artnoise Open Arts Residency Program.
Artnoise Open Arts Residency Program offers short arts residencies in Morocco, Togo, South Africa and Canada. Each destination is curated to ensure participants complete ongoing projects, explore both historic and contemporary African art, and participate in exhibitions and fairs that center their work on an international platform.
