The Republic of Namibia is situated in the south-western part of the African continent. Positioned along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, it’s bordered by the Republic of South Africa to the south, by both Angola and Zambia to the north, and Botswana to the east.

Over the course of an average race of 70 laps, this means a gap of one to two minutes. Those crucial few hundredths of a second that make all the difference are the result of many things: the aerodynamics of the vehicle; the weight of the car; race strategy; the driver; the tires; and the fuel composition.

One of the best and most memorable ways of doing that is by trekking or trail running through the rocky and mountainous parts of the Arabian desert.

Only a few places on earth provides visitors with a genuine feeling of travelling back in time to an authentic by-gone era, unspoiled by modern-day mass tourism. Al-Balad is literally an open-air, living, museum.

It’s sacrilegious for me not to stop by Soho when in New York City to take in the art galleries, trendy coffee shops and cast-iron architecture. It’s also true that my French-born wife, who has been responsible for passing on to me a true appreciation for artisanal pastries, will always also make sure that we find the perfect pastry shop serving authentic French chocolate croissants to accompany a great cappuccino.

A place where we can spend hours as if time stood still. One of these places for me over my decade of living in Toronto, Canada, prior to moving abroad as an expat has been 7 West Café. It’s got a truly unique décor, infectious vibe, great background music and a homey feeling.

Known as the centre of Afro-Brazilian culture, I was eager to see for my self the beautiful colonial buildings, taste the cuisine, and experience sights and sounds of live capoeira dancers in the streets.
